In addition to issues of residency, eligibility, and duration, other key changes in the new Standards include:

simplifying the Standards by eliminating redundancies and focusing on principles over practices
adding Self-Study Ideas to the Standards to assist schools involved in the self-study process
not presuming a predominant organizational model or a single educational modality
expecting shorter self-studies (because there are fewer Standards to cover)
replacing "should" and "shall" statements with indicative statements
connecting institutional integrity to mission in Standard 1
connecting institutional and educational evaluation into a single standard (see Standard 2)
focusing on "student learning and formation" in a more holistic way (see especially Standard 3)
reducing number of degree categories from ten to six in Standards 4-5 (same types of degrees, but more flexibility)
refocusing library standard on services rather than resources (see Standard 6)
enhancing standard on student services (see Standard 7)
providing broader, more holistic description of faculty responsibilities (see Standard 8)
simplifying the standard on governance from 30 to 9 statements (see Standard 9)
simplifying the standard on institutional resources from 46 to 10 statements (see Standard 10)
